Former president Barack Obama remains popular with American voters, including many Christians. There’s little doubt that the former president was a family man, a devoted husband, and a proud father. Obama spent some of his time in office calling on American men, especially Black men, to “man up” and become committed to building stable lives. This was a good thing.
But Obama completely undermined his pro-family message with an appalling record of anti-Christian statements and actions. While pretending to espouse Christian values, Obama did more than any president in recent memory to besmirch these values. He openly promoted the Islamic religion and created a false equivalency between Christianity and other faith traditions. It’s not even clear that Obama truly believes in God.
Obama’s lack of Christian moorings actually starts with his middle name. Hussein, which he very rarely used in public. Hussein is a Muslim name Obama inherited from his father, who was Muslim. He never sought to change this name to a Christian name. In fact, it was a source of family pride. His first and last names he also inherited from his Muslim father, who was born in Kenya.
To get elected, Obama sometimes invoked his Christian stepfather, who actually helped raise him, unlike his father, who abandoned him and his mother. Obama attended Christian schools in Hawaii but he never celebrated this experience. Instead, he often spoke fondly of his visits to Indonesia, which is also a Muslim nation.
It got worse once Obama was elected. Once in office, Obama often extolled the virtues of Islam and even disputed the idea that America is a Christian nation. He allowed for Muslim prayers at the White House, but like so many liberals, he opposed Christian prayer in the schools.
Obama moved even more forcefully against America’s Christian roots when he ran for reelection. Carrying over to Biden when the Pledge of Allegiance was read at the party convention, on two occasions back to back by a couple and a male, reference to our nation’s 200=year old motto – “One Nation Under God”– was eliminated. No one in the media seemed to notice this outrageous evisceration of America’s long-standing celebration of our Creator – and Divine Providence – as the source of our unity and strength as a people.
Obama’s dealing with foreign leaders in the Muslim world showed utter disrespect for our nation and its traditions. When Obama visited Saudi Arabia, the King refused to roll out the traditional red carpet to welcome him. Obama not only didn’t object, he actually bowed before the King. (By contrast, former President Trump kept the King waiting for approximately 15 minutes until a red carpet appeared).
Obama’s obeisance to the Muslim world was also apparent when he met the parents of imprisoned U.S. military deserter Bowe Bergdahl at the White House. He greeted them warmly in Arabic and even invited them to speak at the podium. Bergdahl ended up being traded for captured Taliban soldiers who went on to kill Americans. He was later court-martialed and never apologized for his actions which cost American lives.
Despite his fawning admiration for the Muslim world, the Muslim world under Obama continued to insult America at every turn. Obama consistently underestimated the growing threat posed by ISIS – even calling the terrorist group the “junior varsity,” allowing the group to establish a mini-state in Iraq and leaving America and her allies vulnerable to attack. This led to the slaughter of thousands and thousands of Christians in Iraq and Syria until Trump the Triumphant stopped ISIS.
Obama’s constant minimizing of the threat posed by radical jihadists also led to a disastrous nuclear treaty deal with Iran which stoked that country’s ambition to build a powerful arsenal and emerge as a regional superpower.
It took the election of Trump to undo the Iran deal and to strike a devastating military blow on ISIS which largely eliminated the group’s influence. Obama tried to appease our enemies and naively celebrated the Islamic religious faith our enemies used to attack the Christian identity and values which have kept America strong and united for so many years.
The fact is, Obama according to scripture was never a Christian and never should have pretended to be. In so many ways – including his constant and unfounded attacks on White “racism” – he divided Americans. He left us feeling weaker at home and abroad. He tried to make us feel ashamed about our Christian heritage, which, in retrospect, it seems he never really shared.
Lastly, this is pure and true. If you are a true Christian, you have to align your beliefs with Biblical scripture. Nothing is more obvious of Obama’s hypocrisy than when he ran for President and did not support gay marriage and as soon as he was re-elected, he pushed for gay marriage.
