Why America 1787
America is facing a profound moral and spiritual crisis. Violent crime is engulfing our major cities. Illegal immigrants are rampaging across our borders. Our economy is facing the worst inflation in more than four decades. For the first time ever, young people have lost hope that their lives as adults will be better than their parents.’
Meanwhile, our two political parties are mired in endless conflict. Each has become obsessed with power for itself and its followers. Compromise is rare. Bipartisanship is fleeting. Democrats and Republicans seem less and less able to work together to devise real solutions to the problem we face.
America needs a spiritual – and political – rebirth.
This rebirth requires a return to the cherished values that first led to our founding and to establishment of the US Constitution. For years our nation celebrated this remarkable document as the bedrock of our political system. So did the people of other nations. America was considered a “shining city on a hill.”
We were the envy of the world.
Today, America and its Constitution are under attack – from external enemies, and from within. Freedom itself hangs in the balance. We must gird our loins for battle.
In this blog we aim to celebrate America as the exceptional nation it once was – and still is. America is exceptional, in part, because its founders – God-fearing men of great honor and intelligence – were not afraid to affirm the Divine Providence that led to its creation. “One nation, under God,” is the animating principle of the US Constitution. It is fundamental to our identity.
America 1787 identifies and denounces the various ways our Constitution – and our faith-based values – are under attack in America today. It celebrates the power of the US Constitution to spark America’s spiritual rebirth, to restore our national pride and to inspire the world and ourselves to greatness once again.
Wherever possible, our blog looks to Scripture for guidance. Our Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, placed the slogan “In God We Trust” on our legal tender. They knew that a nation without Divine inspiration could easily lead itself astray and fall victim to fear and cynicism, and divisive and destructive conflict.
America has faced deep internal crises before – during the American Ciivil War, for example, It took an extraordinary president, guided by Divine inspiration, to lead us back to our founding principles and to restore our national unity and sense of Divine purpose.
A single website can only do so much, but we plan to do all we can to inspire our readers – especially Christians – to raise their vision in the unifying and uplifting spirit of Lincoln. There is no other nation on Earth like America. Let’s reclaim our heritage as the Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free — for ourselves and for the future generations that depend upon us.
