Many people claim to be “Christian” in their approach to politics. But are you Christian just because you say you are?
Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, speaking at the annual CPAC conference in Washington, DC, made clear why Democrats can no longer be considered Christians. It’s not because some Democrats don’t have Christian intentions – some do. But the policies they support, in an objective sense, are anti-Christian.
In fact, many Democrats, including top officials in President Biden’s cabinet – and indeed, Biden himself – make no secret of their contempt for Christianity and for faith-based values generally. They would love to see Christian influence all but eliminated from public life.
“This is not just a matter of a difference of opinion,” Gabbard noted. “The Biden administration is actively trying to undermine faith-based people and persecuting them for their beliefs.”
For example, Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland has established a special FBI unit to investigate and harass parents protesting the efforts of Democrat-led school boards to introduce Critical Race Theory into local school curricula.
Another example? Insisting that transgendered individuals be allowed to teach and conduct drag shows as part of the “normal” primary school educational process. Even worse, some school boards are permitting the use of sex toys as parts of sex education classes – for 2nd graders.
“The Biden administration is threatening to take children away from their parents if they don’t comply with these new federal guidelines about school education,” Gabbard said in her speech.
Ironically Biden, who considers himself a Catholic despite his support for abortion, has also recommended going after “radical” Catholics by infiltrating conservative Catholic organizations and identifying leaders hostile to Biden administration policies.
As Gabbard noted, the definition of Catholic “hostility” includes something as simple as advocating in favor of the traditional Latin mass,
“Our founders were visionaries in many ways and they recognized that our freedoms come from God not the government,” Gabbard said. “Unfortunately the Democratic party leaders reject this truth and as result are openly hostile to people of faith and spirituality, actively trying to undermine our religious freedoms and the spiritual foundation of this country.”
Gabbard cited other examples of ways that Democrats have become hostile to Christian values, and to the Constitution, including their opposition to the second amendment. “As Christians, we don’t get to choose which amendments of the Constitution we support and which we don’t,” she declared.
Another example is the Democrats’ embrace of “identity politics” as a foundation for choosing political candidates and promoting members of their party to high office. Citing Dr. Martin Luther King, Gabbard noted that the “content of one’s character,” not the “color of one’s skin,” defines a person’s qualification to govern and to lead.
We Christians believe in the integrity of the individual and the irreducibility of the human soul. We don’t define people by their demographic backgrounds and proceed to stigmatize them as “racist” simply because they’re White.
The Democrats have become the party of “anti-White racism,” Gabbard declared, stoking racial hatred and putting the lie to the idea that Christians can be of any party, Democrats included. Gabbard’s speech.
No doubt there are liberals who claim to be “Christian” based on their concern for people in poverty and their support for government health and social service programs aimed at reducing income disparities. That may be noble, but by backing a party that is otherwise so hostile to people of faith, and by their willingness to support a party so willing to use authoritarian means to silence people of faith, these self-professed Christians should surrendered their mantle of “Christian” and recognize that they are openly hostile to God and to the Christian values this country has always stood for.
Gabbard minced no words in describing what should happen to these Democrats and their supporters in the future. “They should be prevented from ever occupying positions of power,” she declared. Her speech received a standing ovation.
